2021 royalty crowned at Western Illinois Fair

The Western Illinois Fair Association crowned new royalty on Wednesday, June 23, to begin its 2021 Western Illinois Fair in Griggsville.

 The newly crowned Western Illinois Fair Queen Anna Claire May is the 17-year-old daughter of Mike and Michelle May, of Jacksonville. She will be a senior this fall at Routt Catholic High School and plans to attend a four-year university to major in psychology and then earn a doctorate in occupational therapy.

 Anna Claire May was crowned from a field of six contestants in this year’s pageant. Other award winners included first runner-up Raegan Stauffer, of Griggsville; best speech and congeniality awards to Hannah Snow, of Pittsfield; and best interview to Jennifer Bingham, of Griggsville.

 The new Western Illinois Fair Princess Maggie Schnake is the 6-year-old daughter of Eric and Danielle Schnake, of Winchester. She will enter first grade this fall and is involved in dance, swim team and Girl Scouts. She was crowned from a field of four contestants.

 May will represent the Western Illinois Fair at the annual Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant, held in Springfield in January 2022. As part of her prize package, May receives a $1,000 academic scholarship with an additional $700 in gifts and prizes.

 The Western Illinois Fair Queen Pageant is open to young women, ages 16-21, who reside in Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Morgan, Pike and Scott counties. The princess pageant is open to girls, ages 5-6, who reside in any of the same counties. The Western Illinois Fair ended June 27.
