The Art Association of Jacksonville’s 59th Annual Beaux Arts Ball, themed “Glitz Glamour Gatsby,” was held Saturday, April 23, at The JHS Bowl. The coronation began at 7:45 p.m., followed by a reception at the David Strawn Art Gallery and a “Speakeasy” at Hamilton’s 110 North East.

For 59 years the Beaux Arts Ball has been the major fundraiser for The Art Association of Jacksonville. The arts are a valuable experience in everyone’s life and keep Jacksonville a vibrant community. The proceeds from the Ball go toward the presentation of monthly art exhibits by nationally and locally known artists, offering affordable adult and children art classes, preservation of three permanent historic art exhibits, and the overall upkeep of the beautiful and historic David Strawn Art Gallery. All events are open to the public and there is never a charge for viewing any of the exhibits.

Many persons have been working for months to make “Glitz Glamour Gatsby” a success.

The following children participated in this year’s Beaux Arts Ball as flower girls and pages: Millie Grace Schumacher, daughter of Kyle and Sara Schumacher, Jacksonville; Lillie Evelyn Adeline Brown, daughter of Ted and Sissy Brown, Jacksonville; second row, Andrew Darrin Seymour, son of Captain and Mrs. Darrin Seymour, Belleville, IL; Parker Jackson Henry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brett and Brittany Henry, Jacksonville; Jett Morrisey, son of Pat and Rachelle Morrisey, Jacksonville; and Lennox Porter Davidsmeyer, son of The Honorable C.D. Davidsmeyer and Mrs. Kristen Davidsmeyer, Jacksonville; Finley Anne York, daughter of Adam and Margaret York, Jacksonville; Benjamin Jacob Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Meyer, Concord, IL; Gabriel John Pratt, son of James Pratt, Jacksonville and Allison Pratt, Jacksonville; Ryleigh Nichole Boulanger, daughter of Jay Boulanger, Springfield and Kevin & Ashley Bowman, Springfield.

Young men and women in the eighth grade participated in the Beaux Arts Ball as Junior Attendants. This year, the following individuals participated: Jaelen Reid Evans, daughter of Jason and Jennifer Evans, Jacksonville; Carter Lockman, son of Julie Y. Rowe, Jacksonville; Jon H. Lockman, Bethesda, MD; Austin Ray Mays, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Mays, Jr., Jacksonville; and Sarah Jaylan Yow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Allen Yow, Jacksonville.

These young men and women participated in the 2016 Beaux Arts Ball, “Glitz Glamour Gatsby,” as senior gentlemen and senior maids: Owen Paul Blackorby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Watts, Jacksonville. Blackorby’s grandparents are Gayle Pollock and Bill Clark of Jacksonville, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Blackorby and the late Paul Pollock. He attends Jacksonville High School; Jayden Bradley Ware, son of Brad Ware and Charlyn Ware, Jacksonville and the late Mia Ware. Ware’s grandparents are Karla Henderson and Ron Henderson of Jacksonville, Jon Ware of Jacksonville and the late June Ware. He attends Routt Catholic High School; James Alexander Welch, son of Ms. Rhea J. Welch, Jacksonville. Welch’s grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. James. D. Welch. He attends Routt Catholic High School; Madison Lynne Allen (“Madi”), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Allen, Jacksonville. Allen’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harney of Jacksonville, Mr. and Mrs. James Allen of Jacksonville, and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Wease of Roodhouse. She attends Jacksonville High School; Caroline Lila Casler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Casler, Jacksonville. Casler’s grandparents are Mrs. Olga Casler of Jacksonville and the late Dick Casler, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank West of Ashdown, Ark. She attends Routt Catholic High School; Claire Elizabeth Cody, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jon F. Cody, Jacksonville. Cody’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cody of Jacksonville, and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Gibbs of Jacksonville. She attends Jacksonville High School; Lucy Deal, daughter of Harmon B. Deal’s grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Harris Rowe, Jean Deal of Stuart, Fla., and the late Harmon Deal Jr. She attends Jacksonville High School; Megan Jane Heitbrink, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Heitbrink, Jacksonville. Heitbrink’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heitbrink of Jacksonville, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bramel of Ellison Bay, Wis. She attends Jacksonville High School; Alexis Rose Mitchell (“Ally”), daughter of Troy and Kim Mitchell, Jacksonville. Mitchell’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mitchell of Jacksonville, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Grey of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Floyd of Chambersburg. She attends Jacksonville High School; and Taylor Alissa Zoerner, daughter of Tom Zoerner, Jacksonville, and Melissa Zoerner, Jacksonville. Everyone got a wiggle on at the “Speakeasy” at Hamilton’s after the coronation. The Art Association of Jacksonville “popped the cork” and celebrated the arts at the 59th Annual Beaux Arts Ball – “Glitz Glamour Gatsby” on April 23 as guys suited up and gals showed off the Gatsby Glam! Co-chairwomen, Mrs. Jessica Freeman-Richardson and Mrs. Amy L. Jackson, were excited to celebrate the era where jazz music boomed, the flapper redefined modern womanhood and Art Deco peaked.
