The Jacksonville Kiwanis annual Take Me Fishing event had near-record turnout on Saturday, June 14. The free fishing event gave awards to the top three finishers in four different age groups. In total, 106 children registered for the event.
Children and parents alike lined the banks of Morgan Lake at Nichols Park on the somewhat dreary morning putting worms and bobbers in the water. A number of participants caught over 100 inches total of fish throughout the morning. Kiwanians and other volunteers from local bass groups were busy roaming the banks to measure fish, bait hooks and fix the occasional snagged fishing line. One participant even managed to catch a small turtle. Each participant took home a free Kiwanis Take Me Fishing water bottle, a certificate of participation and a whole lot of smiles.
