Pop music fans are gearing up this week for a late night release on August 30 of the new Sabrina Carpenter release. It will likely be one of the biggest albums released in the U.S. this year. Check with your local record retailer and get a copy. It will likely sell out fast.
While you’re at it, catch some local music! The 90s country music tribute band Neon Rodeo makes their return to Twisted Tree Music Hall on Friday, August 29. The show starts at 7 p.m. If you are into something heavier, Pizza Records has a good cause on Friday night, too. The Into Eatin’ Benefit will have proceeds going to the Jacksonville Area Food Center. The lineup for the show includes Midwest emo favorites Short Notice, Morgan County deathcore group Into Eden, and Springfield, Missouri-based four-piece metalcore act SSX — all for $10 at the door. The show starts at 7 p.m. If you want to get out of town on Friday night, The Mighty Quins are playing at the Riverbank Bar & Grill in Florence from 7-10 p.m. A big ‘thank you’ to my longtime friend and drummer/harmonica player extraordinaire Lynn Ruby for reaching out and letting me know about some great local shows.
Saturday, August 30 is just as busy. If Friday was a long night, catch some mimosas and music at KJB’s Pint Haus with Jeff Newman from noon-3 p.m. Jeff Young & the Bad Grandpas jam at Crazy Horse Campground outside of Jacksonville starting at 7 p.m. Local group 4 County Band plays at the Two Dogs Saloon in Roodhouse at 8 p.m. Pizza Records gets heavy again with another three-peat show with Dark Surface, Artificial Light and Robot Army. The cover charge is $10, with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.
Twisted Tree Music Hall returns with one of their top draws on September 4. She’s starting to break through in Nashville as more and more people find out about her music. Sunny Sweeney returns at 7 p.m. for what should be a great night of country music. Tickets start at $23. If you missed her last time, now is the time to catch her because she might be in the stratosphere very soon.
Remember, only you can prevent empty music venues. Support local musicians!
