Municipal departments battle it out for best decorated pumpkin

Jacksonville Municipal Building employees wanted a way to win some prime parking last year, and the mayor’s office decided a contest would be the best way to see who could secure the mayor’s parking spot for a month.
Thus, a pumpkin decorating contest was born. Each department was able to submit a creation to be put on display in the foyer of the municipal building and a vote would be taken.
Mayor’s Assistant Sarah Poore says this year’s contest had a different prize. “Everybody does a great job with their decorations. We’ve been blown away both years of the contest. This year, we have put together a little gift basket of Jacksonville stuff,” Poore says.
The whole building was involved and voting took place starting on Halloween morning via folks in the building. The public could also chime in with a vote in-person or on the city’s Facebook page. This year’s winner was the West Central Joint Dispatch team with their “Alien Abduction of a Cow” creation.
