Catrina Tinkham excited by small business climate in downtown Jacksonville

When clients leave A Touch of Class Salon & Spa, they’re not the only ones feeling good about themselves.
“In my heart, we want to make you feel good — and for them to love their look and leave feeling relaxed and energized and good,” says owner Catrina Tinkham.
She says, “That’s the goal … always have them leave smiling and loving their look and feeling [happy with] the service that they got.”
Tinkham succeeds founder and previous owner Tracie Brust, who remains on staff along with stylists Kelly Casson, Jordyne Graham and Sandy Castleberry and nail techs Tonda Rolson and Sophia Tinkham.
Brust offers stone, deep tissue, oncology and pregnancy massage, in addition to nail work.
The salon, at 310 E. State St. in Jacksonville, is open mostly by appointment, between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Services include facials, back facials and extractions; eyelashes; lash extensions; full body and facial waxing; hair coloring, cuts and perms; manicures and pedicures; and silk wraps, shellac and acrylic nails and tips.
The staff also offer special occasion hair and nail work for client weddings, prom, homecoming and graduations.
The shop looks much the same as when Brust owned it, with a design Tinkham describes as shabby chic, rustic classy. It includes a sitting area, snack and retail area, five stylist chairs, two adult and one child pedicure stations, and three desks for nail work.
Tinkham, a Mount Sterling native who moved to Jacksonville 13 years ago, says, “It’s fun to be local and I enjoy being a small business owner. … I try to be involved in [Jacksonville] Main Street and downtown events. [Downtown Jacksonville] is really growing and it’s very neat to see how they’re bringing it back to life.”
For Tinkham and the salon team, the job is about more than just helping people look and feel good. “It’s rewarding to know you are helping people be successful,” she notes.
