Yearly FLEA-ESTA sale coming up May 17 and 18:
The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will be hosting their yearly Flea-Esta Sale on May 17 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and May 18 from 8 a.m.-noon at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in the 4H building.
Donation of items may be dropped off on May 13, May 14 and May 15, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. any day in the 4H building. No clothing or electronics, please!

Jacksonville Area Museum Foundation Campaign reaches matching gift level:
The Jacksonville Area Museum Foundation is pleased to announce it has reached one of its fundraising goals. In November, when the public phase of its campaign to raise monies for the Jacksonville Area Museum expansion project began, Rabbi Rob and Lauren Thomas generously committed to matching up to $100,000 in donations to the campaign. Supporters of the museum responded with gifts sufficient for the full match. As a result, over $200,000 has been added to the foundation coffers since November of 2023.
In making the announcement, board president of the Jacksonville Area Museum Foundation, Bob Chipman said, “We are so very appreciative of all our supporters led in giving by Rabbi Rob and Lauren Thomas, and Bob and Karen Sibert and the Bound to Stay Bound Foundation. We are happy to announce the public phase of the campaign raised $246,688 including the Thomas’s matching gift.”
Donor levels for the campaign were named after some of the Jacksonville people featured in the Living Wax Legends event held last November. Those levels and the donors to date are:
Eugene Hayden Level – $100,000 and above: Bound to Stay Bound Foundation and Bob and Karen Sibert, Rabbi Rob and Lauren Thomas
Nellie Knopf Level – $50,000 – $99,999: Louise Krussell Norris Bone
Luther Taylor Level – $25,000 – $49,999: Joy French Becker, John Clancy, The Farmers State Bank & Trust Co., Laura and Mickey Marks

Chipman continued, “Because of the generosity of our more than 100 donors, we now can provide the museum funding to get started on the expansion project. Our goal, as well as the museum’s, is for the new space and exhibits to be completed in the next 18 months for a grand reopening of the museum in 2025, the city’s bicentennial year. Then we’ll start working on the next phase, raising the funds needed for making the lower level of the old post office good, usable space.”

Stepping down memory lane — JHS Class of 1965 Memory Book Team Photo Opportunity:
There will be a photo opportunity for members of class of 1965 of Jacksonville High School.

Several members of Jacksonville’s Class of 1965 are gathering on the front steps of their high school Alma Mater to simulate a photo used in their senior yearbook almost 60 years ago.
This photo will be published along with the original in a compilation of stories and memories from their lives growing up in Jacksonville, and their adventures over the intervening 60 years. There are still nearly 250 living members out of a class of 335. The team compiling the stories is currently referring to the compilation as the JHS Class of ’65 Memory Book. A title has yet to be chosen.
The book will be bound and published to be handed out to the returning class members at their 60th reunion in the fall of 2025. Copies will be available for all class members.

Andrew Tinberg Appointed to ICBA Digital Assets Committee — Illinois banker to advocate on behalf of the nation’s community banks:

Bob Freesen YMCA sets kids up for a healthy start to summer at free Healthy Kids Day:
The Bob Freesen YMCA is hosting the Y’s Healthy Kids Day® on Saturday, April 20 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the YMCA, 1000 Sherwood Eddy Drive. This fun, free event features a variety of family-friendly activities to encourage healthy kids, healthy families and a healthy start to the summer season.
Sponsored nationally by Peanuts, Healthy Kids Day’s mission is to turn fun and play into lifelong memories. Featured activities include Basketball with Glenn Pickens, Boxing with Amy and a fun Craft Activity.
“It is so important for kids to stay active over the summer, both physically and mentally,” said Jessie Bonds, Childcare Director. “At the Y, we believe in providing resources for families to create healthy habits, no matter the time of year. Healthy Kids Day is a fun, free community-wide event that encourages families to take advantage of all the great summer activities the Y has to offer. We are looking forward to a great summer with themed weeks and field trips. At the Y we are able to offer daily swimming for the kids, lunch and snacks and so much more. We have great camp counselors, some returning from last summer.”
The Bob Freesen YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will also offer tours of the facility and the childcare director, Jessie, will be available for questions and will have forms available to sign up for YMCA Summer Day Camp this summer.

Bob Freesen YMCA holding red cross lifeguarding certification class April 26, 27 and 28 — plus lifeguarding recertification class May 19:
Lifeguarding Certification at Bob Freesen Y will be held April 26 (6 p.m.), 27 (9 a.m.-6 p.m.) and 28 (2 p.m. to completion) — approximate times which will be determined with the instructors.
The fee is $275 for first-time lifeguards (a non-refundable $25 deposit upon sign-up will be applied to class fee). Participants must be 15 years old by the end of class. Be prepared for swim test Friday evening, April 26 (including 300-yard swim, timed surface drive to get a weight in the deep end and back to wall, and treading water.)
