Stranger Things – NETFLIX

IMDB RATING: 9.0 OUT OF 10 STARS

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends, must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.

MY TAKE: Let’s start this list out with a slam dunk. Stranger Things and Netflix are like peanut butter and jelly… they just go together. Everything about this show, from the cast, various twists and 80’s nostalgia, is just perfect. If you have yet to dabble in Netflix this is where you start. Don’t think, just do it. There’s two amazing seasons you can watch over a weekend during this cold winter weather.

BLACK MIRROR – NETFLIX

IMDB RATING: 8.9

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: An anthology series exploring a twisted, high-tech world where humanity’s greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide.

MY TAKE: We all love technology, heck it’s one of the reasons we are able to stream these awesome shows on our TV and smart phones. But what if all these technological advances ended up being the downfall of our society? That’s what this show tackles. Each episode includes a new story, featuring a new cast. The fourth season just dropped on Netflix. Do your brain a favor and binge this.

FREAKS AND GEEKS – NETFLIX

IMDB: 8.8 STARS

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: A high school athlete starts hanging out with a group of burnouts while her younger brother navigates his freshman year.

MY TAKE: This is one of those shows that had been on my watchlist for years, but only recently got around to binging. Wow I’m glad I did! It’s flat out hilarious and features several big name actors in their early years (James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel). It only lasted one season, but what a beautiful season it was.

LOVESICK – NETFLIX

IMDB: 8.1 STARS

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: After finding out he has an STD, Dylan must get back in touch with every girl he has dated to let them know the bad news.

MY TAKE: Once you get past the ridiculousness of the show, you’ll find yourself cracking up. You won’t find anything groundbreaking or life changing with this show, but it’s great to kick back and relax to. The three main characters, Dylan, Evie and Luke are constantly getting into situations I’m sure most of us went through in our younger days. Plus a new season just dropped on Netflix, talk about perfect timing!

The Handmaid’s Tale – HULU

IMDB RATING – 8.6 STARS

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: Set in a dystopian future, a woman is forced to live as a concubine under a fundamentalist theoretic dictatorship.

MY TAKE: I’ve only seen bits and pieces of this show, but every female I know loves it. The show is fresh off a pair of wins at the 2018 Golden Globes (Best Actress in a TV Series – Elisabeth Moss and Best Television Series – Drama) and is packed with tons of thrills in just 10 episodes. Check the show out before Season 2 drops in April.

MR. ROBOT – AMAZON PRIME

IMDB: 8.6 STARS

WHAT IT”S ABOUT: Follows Elliot, a young programmer working as a cyber-security engineer by day, and a vigilante hacker by night.

MY TAKE: Normally I wouldn’t endorse any original programing from the USA Network, but this is the rare exception. What really makes this show stand out, besides the Fight Club vibes and creative content that digs into the brain of an expert hacker, is the incredible performances from Rami Malek and Christian Slater. Dive into the three seasons available online and get ready for an adrenaline rush.
