A fire broke out off Morton Avenue in Jacksonville during the morning of Sunday, Dec. 8.
According to a post on the “Jacksonville/Morgan County Office of Emergency Management” Facebook page at that time, “Attention, everyone: Firefighters are actively working at the [former Jacksonville Developmental Center] grounds. We are asking everyone to avoid the area of Morton Ave between Diamond and Main Street. This area is dangerous due to water hoses on the roadway and ongoing emergency operations.”
The fire, in the building located on the north side of the former campus of the Jacksonville Developmental Center, was eventually contained. The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal was called in regarding the fire.
