The addition of up to four new services highlights the Passavant calendar for later this year.
First on the list of additions is the anticipated June opening of the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU). BHU is a 10-bed inpatient psychiatric nursing unit located on the west side of the third floor. Barb Smith is the nurse manager for the BHU.
“I’m excited that Passavant has identified mental health as a priority. Our new BHU will give the community access to services where it’s been lacking. And, it’s phenomenal to have three psychiatrists to be part of our team,” Smith said.
Smith comes to Passavant from Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center where she was she was the clinical nurse manager for the past eight years, during which time she helped established the Center’s child/adolescent and partial hospitalization programs. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in psychiatric and mental health nursing.
“My goal is to establish a whole continuum of care for the behavioral health patient. Currently, I’m working on hiring registered nurses and techs. We also plan to work with occupational therapy, pastoral care, and the dietitians as we treat the whole patient,” Smith said. “And, we will help guide the other nursing units in their care of the behavioral health patient.”
In addition to the opening the BHU, Passavant expects to unveil three new programs later this year. While specifics are still being completed, look for an inpatient dialysis program, a weight loss and wellness center, and JointWorks, Memorial’s specialized care program for joint replacement patients.
Passavant’s facility also continues to receive upgrades. Later this summer, employees and guests will enjoy a renovated cafeteria and the addition of a coffee shop. New directional signage and room identification signs will help patients and visitors navigate Passavant. And be on the watch for a new look in our main lobby and meeting rooms.
