The Rev. Tim Kruzan retiring from City Church, plans to move closer to family

The life of a minister is packed with moments that run the gambit of emotions. They hold a special place within the hearts of those they serve — sharing in the birth of a baby, the wedding of two people in love, or support when saying goodbye to a loved one. For one Jacksonville pastor, over two decades of service to his congregation is coming to an end.
The Rev. Tim Kruzan of City Church, formally Jacksonville Assembly of God, attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He began his ministry in 1978 at Prayer and Praise Assembly of God in Pekin. Before coming to Jacksonville in 2003, he served in seven different churches.
Throughout his tenure of leading the flock at City Church, he was also involved in the community in many ways. Kruzan took part in the Ministerial Alliance locally, he did some work with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, he provided chaplain support services with the South Jacksonville Police Department and he was involved with the local food bank.
In addition, he conducted Financial Peace University classes at several locations throughout the community. This is a budgeting class through Dave Ramsey. During his time here, Kruzan was also involved with the July 4 organizational committee for many years.
During his ministry in Jacksonville, Kruzan has led his congregation through a couple of tough times. COVID-19, for example, was a challenge for pastors. “One thing our pastor did that kept us connected, as well as encourage us as a congregation, was to record Bible studies for us and post them on Facebook weekly” shared Deananne Surratt, a member of the church council. “Also, with the help of our worship leader, Bill Cox, and several of the worship team, they would live stream some worship and a message for us every Sunday.”
Kruzan was also there to guide the church through the damage, displacement and renovation of their building caused by the straight-line winds in June 2023. “He became such a strong, loving, humble pastor. It gave us the family ties feelings that so many congregations never experience,” Surratt commented.
During their time in Jacksonville, Kruzan’s wife, Robin, worked at Passavant Area Hospital for 10 years and then Jacksonville School District 117 for the past six years. “We’ve enjoyed our time here in Jacksonville,” shared Robin Kruzan. “It’s a great community. We have and will continue to love it.”
The impact that her husband has had on people’s lives and families has brought many wonderful memories, she added: “We love the people of both the church and the community.”
To celebrate Pastor Kruzan’s retirement, there will be a reception in the City Church fellowship hall after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Oct. 27. City Church is located at 129 E. Vandalia Road.

Kruzan and his wife of 45 years will be moving to the St. Louis area to be closer to family. They have three children: Brian, Erin and Kiley. They also have three grandchildren: Iverly, Petula and Raegan.
