The sign at the entrance to Nichols Park the morning of Saturday, June 10 directed: This way to fishing! It was time for the Kiwanis Take Me Fishing Event, held at Morgan Lake at the park.

The free event is held annually for children between the ages of 3 and 15, and award are given for the top 3 in each of four age groups.

The sun was shining and kids lined the exterior of the lake trying to catch a fish or multiple — one kiddo even caught a turtle! The Kiwanis Club of Jacksonville provided participants with fishing poles, equipment and worms, if needed.

Kiwanians and members of the Jacksonville Bass Team were on-hand to help with worming for any squeamish folks, casting and releasing help, and anything else. There were over 100 people in attendance at this year’s event.
