Residents of Knollwood Retirement Community recently celebrated Knollwood’s 15 years of service.

Sitting towards the North end of Westgate, located at 20 Jacksonville Place, is Knollwood Retirement Community, a supportive living facility. In June, Knollwood celebrated 15 years of service in the central Illinois area.

Knollwood Retirement Village is open to active seniors, age 65 and over, who may need some assistance with one or more activities on a daily basis. This facility is equipped with 76 single-occupancy apartments and 10 double-occupancy apartments for its residents. Each unit is available in a variety of floor plans and each apartment is furnished with the residents’ own furnishings.

Their philosophy has always been to provide a residential environment that makes life easier and worry free. To this end they seek to provide privacy, comfort, security, as much independence as possible, to stay as involved in the community as possible and to remain accessible to their family and friends. “We truly believe in our mission of caring for God’s older family. It is my honor and privilege to serve our residents in making a difference in their lives,” remarked Sharon Clayton, the marketing director at Knollwood since the doors were open. “They are truly a large part of my extended family.”

One founding member of the Knollwood family is Joyce Ray. She has enjoyed living there for 15 years. “Knollwood is a wonderful place to live. The staff is so kind and caring, they are like family to me,” stated Ray. “I could not be any happier here.” On a recent weekend her family came to visit, as they often do, and we asked them to sum up what their experience has been like over the last 15 years. “They have been providing wonderful care to our family members. Their staff is so caring, and their services included make it such a wonderful facility. We are truly blessed to have them in our community.”

Each resident is assured weekly laundry and housekeeping services, restaurant style dining (including three meals per day plus snacks), extended basic cable, Wi-Fi throughout the building, individual heating and cooling units, all utilities, 24-hour nursing services through the Wellness Center, medication setups and reminders, assistance with bathing and personal care if needed and transportation to all doctor appointments. All of these services are included in the monthly fee. Phone services are available to be installed in the apartment, a beauty shop and barber services are located within the facility, guests’ meals and pedicure services are all available at a nominal cost. Knollwood has 60 dedicated employees.

The residents can take part in a large variety of activities. Knollwood schedules day trips, takes residents shopping, attends many special community events, and they have access to chapel services on Tuesday and Sunday evenings, complete with resident choir. Many organizations in the area love to come and share their talents and abilities with the residents. Their social activities, education programs and recreational opportunities help keep Knollwood residents learning and growing in mind, body and spirit. They have a monthly resident council meeting and residents have a voice in menu selections which can feature residents own recipes.

To schedule a tour of their facility and talk to staff about apartment availability, they can be reached at 217-245-5101.
