The Jacksonville Area Museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation, interpretation, and appreciation of the cultural history and heritage of the Jacksonville and Morgan County area.

They plan to do this through engaging exhibits and original artifacts that tell the Jacksonville area’s important, fascinating and often surprising history. The museum is staffed by volunteers and the board of directors is appointed by City of Jacksonville Mayor Andy Ezard.

The museum is now in the process of seeking both volunteers as well as museum members, who will help see the museum into its next phases of development.

The museum’s biggest artifact is the building in which it is housed, the former Post Office, which is over 100 years old and has been restored.

The museum is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission fee but a donation of $5 is suggested to keep the all-volunteer museum operating.
