Jacksonville Rotary Club’s Sgt. Matt Weikert Scholarship Program

The Rotary International Club of Jacksonville has announced details regarding their 2015-16 Sgt. Matt Weikert Scholarship Program. This memorial scholarship is given in honor of Sgt. Matt Weikert, a graduate of Jacksonville High School, who was known for his leadership and his attitude of service above self. Serving several tours of duty in Afghanistan, Weikert gave his life for his country and our freedom.

For 2016, the Jacksonville ROTARY Club is offering the Sgt. Matt Weikert Scholarship, which will award $1,000 to JHS seniors and adults who graduated from JHS and will be attending vocational school, technical school or community college. In order to be considered for this award, an eligible student must:

  • Be a resident of the legally defined boundaries of Jacksonville, Ill. School District 117 (current JHS students), or for past JHS graduates, a resident of the State of Illinois, and…
  • Be a senior at Jacksonville High School expecting to graduate in May-June of 2016 with plans to attend a vocational school, technical school or community college in 2016, or…
  • Be a past graduate of Jacksonville High School with plans to attend a vocational school, technical school or community college in 2016.

Please not that this scholarship is not for a 4-year degree program. Students seeking a 4-year program at a college or university should apply for the Jacksonville Rotary Scholarship. Children of current Rotarians are ineligible for this scholarship.

This $1,000 scholarship will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient’s selected school. The scholarship may be used toward tuition and/or school supplies, including books. Applications are due by March 25, 2016, and the Rotary Scholarship Committee will interview selected finalists on the week of April 11, 2016, with winners being notified of the scholarship(s) by April 18, 2016.
