Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra prepares to begin its 2016-2017 “Season of Celebration”

This season’s schedule includes an exciting variety of groups and performers, including two Jacksonville natives as featured soloists. Mark your calendar for the following Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra (JSO) concerts:

October 8, 2016 – “Celebrate the Bard”

Acclaimed bass and baritone Ryan Kuster (Jacksonville native) will solo with the symphony orchestra in a program of music marking the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. The program will include Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet,” as well as other music inspired by Shakespeare’s work. This is a concert for music and literature lovers alike!

November 5, 2016 – “Celebrate the Intimate”

Select members of the JSO will perform an evening of smaller ensemble music together in this new addition to the symphony season – a chamber concert! In contrast to the full sound of the orchestra, the warmth, familiarity and closeness of this evening’s music will delight you.

December 3, 2016 – “Celebrate the Holidays”

Presenting a holiday celebration for the entire family, the JSO will partner with the Jacksonville Symphony Chorale and the Jacksonville High School Concert Choir to present the jubilant songs of the season. Always a popular concert, it will be held at the family-friendly time of 3 p.m.

February 21, 2017 – “Celebrate our Youth” (held at Annie Merner Chapel, MacMurray College)

While not included in season ticket subscriptions, this concert is held for the benefit of Jacksonville youth. An opportunity to introduce them to the sights and sounds of the orchestra, it features familiar and popular songs sure to ignite the kids’ interest in music.

March 25, 2017 – “Celebrate the Silver Screen and the Video Screen”

Featuring selections from movies as well as video games, this concert will take you on a unique and entertaining musical adventure trip using the orchestra as well as the chorale.

May 6, 2017 – “Celebrate the French Horn”

William Lane (Jacksonville native) will fill the concert hall with the mellow sounds of his French horn for this final concert of the season. It will be an evening of glorious melody that you won’t want to miss.

Unless otherwise noted, concerts are held at Rammelkamp Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Tickets are available for purchase at County Market for two weeks leading up to each concert, or at the door prior to the concert. To purchase individual or season tickets online, visit www.jaxsym.org.
