The Winter Guard Team placed 1st place in AA Tall Flag and AA Lyrical Flag!
State Solo Placements include: Jasmin Watson – 8th place solo; Summer Harris – 7th place solo; and Serenity Norman – 2nd place Flag solo. Soloists work over the summer and develop their own choreography and choice their own music.
Winter Guard Coach Rachel Mansell has been coach for seven years. Mansell was on JHS Winter Guard for four years and graduated in 2009. She says it takes dedication and hard work for the girls. They practice twice a week for 3 hours. Many of the girls are in multiple activities including track, plays and more and have to learn to balance all their activities.

To have a more personal connection to the performance, each girl chose a cause to remember and fight for and had a ribbon for that cause on her uniform and the connection really showed in the performance. The list causes they chose were: Adoption, ALS, Alzheimer’s, Anxiety Disorder, Asthma, Autism, Breast Cancer, Cerebral Palsy, Child Abuse, Childhood Cancer, Childhood Disabilities, Deaf, Domestic Violence, Epilepsy, Gun Violence, Heart Disease, Leukemia, LGBT, Mental Illness, Pancreatic Cancer, PTSD, Reproductive Rights, Safe Driving, Self Harm, SIDS, Substance Abuse, Suicide Prevention, Tourette’s, and much more!
Auditions for Color Guard (which perform with the Marching Band) take place in March and Auditions for Winter Guard (which perform on their own) take place in late October/early November right after Marching Band ends.
