Jacksonville Main Street’s FundFest, held October 8, 2022, in Central Park was a resounding success!
Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters donated the concert as part of a fundraiser benefit for the family of long-time Mason Sound employee, Doug Warcup, which Jacksonville Main Street supporters donated to in order for the concert to be held downtown with free admission to the public. Thanks to the sponsors (Brian Nyberg Construction, Executive Transportation, Don’s Place, Dominic Casey ReMax, Brent Theatrical Lighting, Hopper RV, The Little Stove, Shanan Casey, Melissa Gerard, Oscar Tipsword), and Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters for making the day possible.
The Jacksonville-based band played for 3 hours to raise funds to kick-start the 2023 Downtown Concert Season after Jacksonville Main Street award winners were announced for 2020 and 2021. Concert attendees filled the entire Central Park and enjoyed patronizing many businesses downtown throughout the day.
Because Jacksonville Main Street was not able to host its annual awards banquet due to the pandemic, regular awards noting outstanding service and support to downtown and Jacksonville Main Street were not publicly announced for 2020 or 2021. The recipient of the Kristan Becker Hoffman Volunteer of the Year Award for 2020 was Taylor Zoerner and Albert Evans received the honor for 2021. Jacksonville Main Street’s Business of the Year for 2020 was Walmart store 200 – Bryan Neeley manager and Jessica Richardson Graphic Design was named for 2021. The Tom Grojean Community Spirit Award for 2020 went to Randy Springer and the 2021 award went to Cory Garner. Doug Pagel received a special “Get ‘R Done” award, while Bill Mayes was recognized for his retirement after 42 years of service in downtown maintenance for the City of Jacksonville. Terry Chumley was congratulated on his retirement from City service with a Legacy Award. Tom Winner also received a Legacy Award for many years of service on Jacksonville Main Street’s Board of Directors.
