A few sprinkles in the early evening of Friday, June 27 had some of the Jacksonville faithful a bit shy on coming to the downtown square for the Jacksonville Main Street Downtown Concert Series concert.
When Laura Rain & The Caesars fired up at 6 p.m., however, the crowd started to slowly trickle in. The 90-degree heat stayed away and a cool wind out of the west made it an ideal night for some funk, soul, and classic rhythm and blues from the quartet out of Detroit.
Rain told the crowd that she was so pleased to see so many supporting the arts at a community event, especially for the group’s first stop in the City of Jacksonville. Laura Rain & The Caesars mixed in classic soul favorites with songs from their five full-length albums and multiple singles.
Several young people tried their hand at hula hoops while others struggled to choose a snack from the five food trucks parked on the northwest corner of the square. The concert series will now take two weeks off to accommodate for the Fourth of July and the Morgan County Fair. The series will return on Friday, July 18 with an encore performance of southern blues-rock by The Champ Jaxon Band.
