Mike Wankel, former Jacksonville Ward 4 alderman, took his oath to become county commissioner on Monday, January 3.
He was sworn in by the Hon. Chris Reif at the Morgan County Courthouse. Fellow commissioners Ginny Fanning and Brad Zeller were in attendance, as well as his family.
Wankel was nominated by the Morgan County Republican Party to replace the late Bill Meier. The Republican Central Committee voted unanimously for Mike Wankel to fill the vacancy.
A graduate of Triopia High School, Wankel has owned AB&C Moving and Storage for almost 30 years. He and his wife, Lori, have been married for 35 years. They have two daughters and a grandson.
Wankel was first elected as Jacksonville Ward 4 alderman in 2013.
