To the co-owners, Jessica Lynn, Brynna Wilson (formerly Brynna Welsh), and Carissa Hewitt, Green Haven has been a dream since 2018 but it wasn’t until last summer that their dream of helping their community live ‘greener’ began to take form.
On February 13, 2021, they will open their brick-and-mortar store on Jacksonville’s square. Green Haven’s motto is “Reuse, Refill, Recycle;” encouraging people to live a zero-waste lifestyle. The store has a refillable station with over 15 different products, including shampoo, laundry detergent and dish soap. Customers can either bring in their own containers to be weighed and filled or can purchase a container from the store to fill up with wet or dry products.
They have house-made products such as candles and concrete planters that are made by Wilcrete, which is owned by Wilson and her husband. In fact, each owner sells their own products in the store. Hewitt’s The Perfect Piece makes and sells clay jewelry and seed cards. Jessica Lynn’s One Knotty Maker makes macramé products and essential oil accessories. Though most of the products are local, they carry several special products from New Zealand. Wilson’s father, Bob Welsh who hailed from Zealand, passed away several years ago, but the women have decided to honor him with products from his homeland.
Green Haven highlights local businesses as well, from bees wax food wraps by Nothing Fancy Supply to artwork and cards by local artist Nick Nelson. They have products from over a dozen local businesses and make incorporating locally made products an important part of their store. “It’s your one-stop-shop for all things eco-friendly,” says Hewitt, “We try and support other local businesses”. The women say they have had wonderful support from many local companies who have reached out to them and are excited to continue to work with other local businesses in the future.
Green Haven officially opens on February 13. You can find them on the square at 66 East Central Park Plaza, Suite 100, Jacksonville IL. They also have active social media pages on both Facebook and Instagram.
