One young explorer

The Young Explorers Club meets from 11 a.m.-noon one Saturday a month at the Jacksonville Public Library (JPL), located at 201 W. College Ave. All activities are free and pre-registration is not required. The upcoming scheduled programs are:

• January 29 – “Know Your Insects from Your Bugs”

Illinois College Biology professors Bryan Arnold and Lawrence Zettler will provide an introduction to the fascinating world of insects, explaining how to categorize insects by proper taxonomic order. Held at Illinois College Parker Science building.

• February 26 – “Plants in Agriculture”

Todd Burrus of Burrus Seed Farms, Inc., will introduce students to the science of modern farming. The program includes an examination of soil types and seed varieties. Held at JPL.

• March 19 – “Illinois: The Prairie State”

Deb Burrus will present an engaging program on the ecology of hill prairies and the unique plants and animals that inhabit them. Held at JPL.
