The Jacksonville Sunrise Rotary Club will be holding a Pie and Cake Contest and Auction as part of the Rotary Fourth of July Blast, on Monday, July 4, on the north veranda of the Nichols Park Pavilion. “No advance applications are needed,” said club president and event coordinator, Sonie Smith. “Just bring your favorite pie and cake to the pavilion on Independence Day.” Entries may be delivered to the pavilion starting at 11:30 a.m. and judging will begin at noon. Entrants may compete in both the pie and cake categories, and the event organizers have announced a special category for kids up to age sixteen. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the winners in each category. The Jacksonville Sunrise Rotary Club asks that no soft or maringue pies be entered into the contest, and they also stipulate that cake mixes may be used as a starter base for entries. “This fun contest has been part of the Rotary Fourth of July celebration for many years, “ said club member Jay Jamison, “and Sunrise Rotary is happy to keep the tradition going.”
