In conjunction with Veterans Day 2017, the South Elementary School 6th grade has been collecting items to send to 188th Military Police 1st Platoon “Punishers” stationed on the North Korea/South Korea border. They thought it would be awesome to help take care of soldiers and extra special to send at Christmastime. Teacher Mike Gross serves in the platoon, as well. The items donated will benefit 40+ military personnel from all over the United States. Teacher Mrs. Dana Fricke shipped out the packages December 1. One student had commented, “We have been gathering supplies for the past month and Mrs. Fricke shipped the boxes off … we gathered 10 shipping boxes for the soldiers. The boxes contained food and snack items, Nerf balls, games, toothbrushes, toothpaste, tissues, along with every day needs.
My class (Mrs. Fricke) and Mr. Zuhone’s class packed the boxes with handmade cards to tell them how much we appreciate them for their service. I thought it was a wonderful idea to do that for the soldiers because not every day do people think about the men and women who serve for our country. I think people should do that more!”
