RCHS boys’ bowling fares well at IHSA Regional

Four boys’ bowlers from Routt Catholic High School (RCHS) competed as individuals at the IHSA Boys’ Bowling Regional at Danville on Saturday, January 15. Team members include sophomores Dawson Dillard and Alex McGuire, along with freshmen Devon Chaplin and Tanner Martin. All four bowled above their regular season averages at the regional competition. McGuire’s high game for the day was a 117, his second highest score in competition this season. Dillard rolled a six-game series of 824 for an average of 137.3, fifteen pins over his regular season average. In addition, Dillard bowled his high game of the year with a 172. Chaplin had a six-game series of 956, for an average of 159.3 and a high game of 222. Martin led the group with a six-game series of 1024, for an average of 170.7. Martin’s high game on the day was 197.

Individually, McGuire placed 44th, Dillard placed 32nd, Chaplin placed 24th and Martin placed 20th. Tanner Martin and Devon Chaplin both advanced to the IHSA Sectional competition on Saturday, January 22nd at Bowl Haven in Alton. According to RCHS, Martin and Chaplin each bowled six games. Martin ended with 1,020 series total, a high game of 200. Chaplin bowled 1045 series, with a high game of 203. Chaplin placed 80th and Martin placed 84th. RCHS Bowling Coach Pat Gibson said, “Coach Sarah Deddo and I couldn’t be prouder of Tanner and Devon in their first year of high school bowling. “For them to advance to Sectionals was more than we expected this year.”
