On Saturday, April 23, senior Jayden Ware completed his Eagle Scout project and is awaiting his final recognition from the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of the Jacksonville Scout Troop #107. Ware planned and executed the erection of a statue of St. Thomas Aquinas, the patron saint of Catholic education, and revitalized the landscaping in front of Routt Catholic High School. Mr. Mark Rood, Theology Director at Routt, commented that, “Jayden took responsibility to contact numerous businesses for his project, and I had the opportunity to witness his communications with adults to request his needs for the project. Watching his interactions with adults, he showed confidence and maturity as a senior. I was proud that he asked me to be a part of this project.”
After obtaining approval from his Scoutmaster and making a presentation to the Building and Grounds Committee of the Routt Board of Education, he solicited the assistance of 19 volunteers, working a total of 68 hours on the project.
The faculty, staff and student body gathered together on National Day of Prayer for the blessing of the statue. Rev. Thomas C. Meyer, Pastor of Our Saviour Parish, blessed the statue. “The project as a whole, went very well,” stated Ware, “it was a big relief when it was finished. Although the timing of the project was not ideal, (beginning in the winter months) I feel like I made a good, lasting impression on the Routt community.”
Principal Nick Roscetti said, “The Routt community is grateful for his project, and congratulates Jayden in the completion of his Eagle Scout project, his continued work with the Boy Scouts of America, and his service to Routt Catholic High School.”
