The South Jacksonville Celebration took place on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 on the Prairieland Heritage Museum grounds.
Saturday’s events started at 10 a.m. with a parade of nearly 30 floats. Then, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., patrons enjoyed free parking, admission and carnival rides at the celebration; carnival games and food vendors were available for a cost.
Some changes for this second year of The South Jacksonville Celebration were made, however. For example, those under the age of 18 had to be accompanied by an adult. Village President Dick Samples shared that the event was also adjusted so that it was during the daytime versus having it at night. Additionally, member of the South Jacksonville Police Department and the Citizens Police Academy were present to help keep the event running as smooth as possible.
The celebration is sponsored by Village of South Jacksonville, Four Rivers Special Education District and Conner Family Amusements.
There was great weather for the weekend, and families enjoyed time together at little to no cost.
