The Bill Pool Fight for Life Golf Outing

By Donna May

Butch Wood is hosting his annual golf outing at The Links in Jacksonville, Ill., on June 11, 2016. The name of the event is The Bill Pool Fight for Life Golf Outing. The outing will conclude with a live auction. He has graciously chosen to donate the proceeds to our dear friend and family member who has had a great impact on our lives and in the day-to-day lives of many young people in our community.

Bill Pool, a 40 year old non-smoker, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer at the end of September, 2015, which has spread to his brain, bones, and lymph nodes. He is currently under the care of doctors at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Bill Pool has been a physical education teacher at Turner Jr. High in Jacksonville, Ill., for the last two years. He is the 8th grade boys’ basketball coach. Prior to teaching at Turner, he taught elementary physical education in Waverly, Illinois, for fourteen years. While there, he coached 8th grade boys’ basketball for four years, varsity boys’ basketball for ten years, and junior high boys’ track for twelve years. Bill has impacted the lives of many young men and women throughout his teaching and coaching career. Bill has been married to his wife, Jennifer, for 13 years. She is a Math teacher at Turner Junior High.  They have three wonderful and active children: a daughter, Emalee who plays soccer, tumbles and dances, and two sons, Tyler and Jacob who play soccer, football, basketball and baseball.

Would your organization consider donating something for the live auction? We also have hole-sponsorships available. To share a hole, it costs $100, or to have the hole exclusively, it costs $500. Monetary donations are being accepted at The Farmers State Bank and Trust Company, 200 West State, Jacksonville, Ill., 62650, in care of the Bill Pool Fight for Life Fund. We greatly appreciate your consideration in this matter.
