Christian Bluegrass Festival Concert to benefit Green Pastures

by Eric A Thomas

Reminiscent of Sunday afternoon band concerts, Green Pastures Christian Retreat Center will host a gospel bluegrass concert on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. The concert will feature Bluegrass Gospel Five, a group made up of local musicians.

The concert will be held at the amphitheater on the grounds of Green Pastures, located at 1936 1936 US-67, Meredosia. “We have done a lot of work getting ready to open for the summer season,” remarked Chuck West, event organizer and member of Bluegrass Gospel Five.

“This is our opportunity to show what we have done and try to raise a little money to support the finances of the retreat.”

A love offering will be accepted in lieu of an admission fee. Those in attendance are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket upon which to sit.

Green Pastures Christian Retreat Center was started in 1978 by Doris and Bud Groat. The primary purpose of Green Pastures is to provide Christian retreat facilities where spiritual life can be nurtured and experienced. Christian and community groups may reserve the retreat center all through the year for seminars, conferences, camps and other special events. Individuals and families may also utilize the facilities for picnics, reunions, camping and personal retreats.

There is a fishing pond and several walking paths for you to enjoy. Overnight accommodations are available. The retreat center is supported and enhanced through volunteer efforts and contributions from individuals and community organizations. All donations are tax-deductible.

Some of the most popular annual events are the Performing Arts Camp (PAC), Fire in Our Hearts (FIOH) weeklong camp and weekend retreats. PAC is an encouraging two-day experience for youth utilizing dance, mime, music, drama, art, worship and small groups to share the love of Jesus. FIOH is five fun-filled days for youth utilizing recreation, small groups, worship, teaching and times of ministry to share the love of Jesus.

The focus is on developing the camper’s relationship with Christ and other Christians. The weekend retreats are overnight camper reunions where the focus is on developing your relationship with Christ, renewing your relationship with summer camp friends, and furthering your development as a follower of Christ during the school year.
