After their first couple games they knew they had a very special team. The Crimsons continued to show people how good they were, as they went 19-0 in the regular season. Jacksonville traveled down to Bethalto to play in their regional, they took on Quincy in the semi-finals and beat them by 37. They then moved on to play Alton in the regional final, this game quickly got out of hand, Jacksonville took a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and then went up to 30-0 early in the third before Alton scored their first basket. The Crimsons won this one 53-20 and traveled to East St. Louis for the sectional championship game. In the sectional game Jacksonville lost a close one to East St. Louis. This game ended the year for the seventh grade Crimsons, they finished the season 21-1. This was the first Jacksonville Middle School basketball team to win a regional championship. Mike Worrell announces retirement after 22 seasons Mike Worrell, long time coach at Illinois College, announced his retirement early this week. Worrell is only one of the several staff members to take an early retirement offered by the school. Worrell led the Blueboys to several Midwest Conference Tournaments in his 22-year span, and in this time, he took the first ever Blueboys team to the Division III National Tournament. Worrell was also a two-time Midwest Conference Coach of the Year and produced 29 All-Midwest Conference players. Late last year Worrell won his 200th game in his career at Illinois College and sits at 209 wins as of now. Boys Basketball West Central West Central stayed at home for their matchup Tuesday night against Routt. West Central came out on top of this one by a score of 62-43. West Central traveled to Carrollton on Friday night. This game was very tight through the first quarter as they were tied at five with three minutes to play in the first. Carrollton then took an 8-7 lead after the first quarter. Carrollton did not have trouble with the Cougars press like many teams have, the scoring picked up a little for both teams as West Central lead 17-14 midway through the second quarter. At halftime West Central lead 25-20. Carrollton looked very impressive considering that they were beat by the Cougars by 34 in the Waverly Holiday Tournament. West Central continued to extend the lead little by little in the third, by the end The Cougars lead by 11. In the fourth West Central maintained their lead and won this one 63-50. The Cougars improved to 22-4 on the year. Triopia Calhoun travelled to Triopia on Tuesday night to take on one of the hottest teams in the area. Triopia came out of the gate a little slow and trailed by six going into halftime. After the bad half for the Trojans, they used a 26-point third quarter to boost themselves to a 17-point win. This puts the Trojans at a solid 17-5 record, and 7-1 in their last eight games. Triopia travelled to Pleasant Hill on Thursday night to play their seventh conference game, Pleasant Hill came into this game with a 7-11 record. This game was a make-up game from earlier in the year after the game was postponed due to extreme weather. Triopia came out of the gates strong and never look back. The Trojans won this game 54-41. The Trojans continued to stay unbeaten in conference play and improved to 18-5 this year. Routt Routt travelled to West Central on Tuesday night for a conference matchup. In this one the Rockets looked a little out of sync and West Central won this 62-43. Routt dropped to 13-9. On Friday night the Routt Rockets travelled to Greenfield. Routt came out hot and won this one 67-28. This defensive performance ranks among the best of them for the Rockets. Routt improved to 14-9 and has won four of their last five games. Jacksonville Jacksonville travelled to Monmouth on Friday night. Jacksonvillelooked for Will Peak and Zach Rose to lead the Crimsons as they both average close to 10 points a game. Both teams started off hot on the offensive end of the floor, and Monmouth lead 17-14 after the first quarter. Monmouth outscored Jacksonville by 13 points in the second quarter to give them a 37-21 halftime lead. Will Peak had eight points for the Crimsons at the break. Monmouth continued to extend their lead in the second half and took this game 63-46. Jacksonville moved to 4-20 on the year and lost their 10th consecutive game. Illinois College On Tuesday night the Illinois College Blueboys travelled to Knox College. The Blueboys got off to a quick 7-2 lead, but that lead disappeared quickly as Knox tied it up at 9. Later in the half Illinois College hit three threes&#x2019; in a row to give the Blueboys a 31-23 lead. The offense for the Blueboys went cold in the last three minutes of the half, but they still lead 38-28. Knox came out strong in the second half, with 13 minutes remaining they cut the Blueboy lead to just three. With a Max Stutsman basket, they extended the lead to six. Knox then caught on fire and scored on the next five possessions and took a four-point lead with only 22 second left. Riley Dugan scored a bucket with 13 seconds left to cut the Knox lead to two, but it wasn&#x2019;t enough and the Blueboys lost by one at Knox. Mason Speer had a double-double with 12 points and 13 assists, one assist off the Blueboy record. On Saturday the Blueboys travelled to Grinnell. Grinnell runs a very unique style offense and looks to push the ball at all times. This offense worked against the Blueboys as they turned the ball over 31 times.
