This year was the 2nd annual Summer Kids’ Movie Series! This wasn’t just any old kid-friendly event though, it was also to benefit the Jacksonville Food Center. Just like the good ol’ days, you could pay for your admission with 50 cents. Or, you could enjoy free admission with the donation of a non-perishable food or personal hygiene item – which, of course, went to the Jacksonville Food Center. Showings took place on Wednesday mornings, June 6 — July 25. For each showing, the doors opened at 9:30 a.m., and the movies started at 10 a.m. Films included “Monster Trucks” (June 6), “The Emoji Movie” (June 13), “Boss Baby” (June 20), “Despicable Me3” (June 27), “Smurfs” (July 4), “Batman” (July 11), “A Dog’s Purpose” (July 18), and “Captain Underpants” (July 25). Sponsors for this event included: Turner Tree Service, CASSCOMM, First Christian Church, DD Homes Network, The Nursery School, attorney at law Carrie Maggerl, Centenary United Methodist Church, CNB Bank & Trust, N.A., Just Good Trade, Jacksonville Stained Glass, JASA Roller Hockey, Off the Square, Country Financial agent Julie Schutz, and Jacksonville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
