The Jacksonville High School Volleyball Team sparred with Decatur MacArthur on Wednesday, September 13 in the JHS West Gym. It was a strong start; however the match went down as a loss in the books. Decatur MacArthur def. JHS Crimsons 10-25, 25-15, 25-23. Head Coach Gary Hickox had this to say about the games: “As you said, we pretty much dominated in the first set and did everything good. We played great defense and our serving was good. We attacked the ball. We were smart … game two – not so much, but game three was our biggest killer. We had too many service errors, too many hitting errors, you know … just a lot of errors piling up on us, which ultimately what kind of got us the loss.” The next match will be against Rochester on Tuesday, September 20 at home. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. Specifically to prepare for those games, Hickox says, “We’re just going to have to get better at our serving. It was getting good. We were at a point where we were making an average of maybe four service errors in a match, and last night we had 13, I think, overall.” With rally scoring, it’s something that can quickly become a detriment. Hickox added, “You just can’t do that, especially when Rochester is leading the league right now … we have to show up our blocking a little bit. Every team we’re facing this year is bigger than us – we’re just not a tall team.
