Jacksonville Main Street is holding a contest centered around shopping in downtown Jacksonville. The contest is in conjunction with the JMS 25-year celebration. Up until the September 7 celebration, anyone can take pictures of their shopping finds and purchases from downtown Jacksonville businesses — then, post them on social media using this hashtag: #JacksonvilleILDowntownFinds.
Each tag will enter that person into the drawing, which will take place at the September 7 Jacksonville Main Street 25th Anniversary Celebration. Five winners will be selected at random from the entries, and each of those (5) winners will receive a $100 gift certificate to the downtown business of the winner’s choice.
So, get to shopping! Post your hauls with the tag #JacksonvilleILDowntownFinds for a chance to win! Jacksonville has so much to offer.
Jacksonville Lions Club sponsoring School Supply Drive to benefit the Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation:
The Jacksonville Lions Club is once again generously sponsoring a school supply drive to support the students of District #117. School supplies provided through this drive will be purchased at Walmart, collected by members of the Jacksonville Lions Club who will be present at the events, and then delivered to the Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation for distribution throughout the district.
This wonderful partnership between the Lions Club, Walmart, and the JPSF has helped District #117 students get to the classroom in the best condition for learning by providing literally thousands of school supplies over the years.
Those wishing to purchase supplies for donation can do so at Walmart on the following dates:
August 2 and 3, 2024, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
August 9 and 10, 2024, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Next winner of Photo Contest chosen July 15 for 2024:
State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Murrayville) announced the winner of the second round of his photo contest is Tiffany Blasa of Grafton. Blasa’s photo captures a scene of an exhibition barn and familiar images located on the Jersey County Fairgrounds.
“Our county fairs are such a big part of my large rural district, and this picture definitely reminds me of all of the 4-H livestock shows and auctions that I’ve attended over the years,” commented Davidsmeyer. “I have so many great memories of county fairs throughout my life, including my traditional birthday corndog. This photo is going to look great in my office!”
Constituents of all ages in the 100th District are invited to participate in the photo contest to capture the beauty and diversity of this west-central Illinois district. They are encouraged to show off their skills and take a picture of a local landmark, wildlife, or an event in the 100th District and email the picture with contact information to RepCDDavidsmeyer@gmail.com. The photo contest runs through 2024 with a final winner chosen in the third round on August 15. Community Resource Event hosted by Prairieland United Way:
Prairieland United Way is hosting a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) on Friday, August 30. The purpose is to highlight the resources available in Morgan County at one location. This is a free event open to the public.
“A comprehensive MARC event offers the public a chance to discover available resources conveniently, eliminating the need to visit multiple organizations,” states Karen Walker, Executive Director of Prairieland United Way. Space is still available for organizations interested in participating.
The event will be held at the Spirit of Faith Soup Kitchen located at 105 Dunlap Street in Jacksonville. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided at no cost by Spirit of Faith Soup Kitchen.
Participating agencies include Bella Ease, Bob Freesen YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, Hobby Horse House, Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, Lincoln Land Community College, Lions Club, Morgan County Health Department, New Directions, SIU Family Medicine, Spirit of Faith Soup Kitchen, The Salvation Army, Prairieland United Way.
