Blood donation event scheduled for October 11:
A “Trick a Vampire — Donate Blood for a Treat” blood donation event will take place on Oct. 11 from 1:30-5:30 p.m. at the Midwest Agriculture & Art Center, 225 South Clay St., Jacksonville.

Foundation donates life-saving device to local sports complex:
The Nicholas Patrick Sauer Memorial Foundation, a licensed non-profit based in Troy, Ill., has made a significant contribution to community safety by donating an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to Future Champions Sports Complex in Jacksonville.
Founded in 2022, the Nicholas Patrick Sauer Memorial Foundation was established in memory of Nick Sauer, who tragically passed away in October 2019 due to an undiagnosed heart condition. The Sauer family – parents John and Lisa, and children Joe and Olivia – along with their friends, channeled their grief into a mission to help others.
The foundation’s roots run deep in the Illinois area, with the Sauer family originally hailing from Winchester. Their close ties to the region make this donation to locally owned and managed Future Champions Sports Complex particularly meaningful. This generous act underscores the foundation’s commitment to preventing tragedies similar to the one that inspired its creation.
The AED donation was made possible through funds raised at the foundation’s annual Nick Sauer Heart of the Party Golf Tournament. This event not only honors Nick’s memory but also provides crucial resources for local communities. The foundation has previously donated AED devices to the Carlinville Park District.
The most recent Nick Sauer Heart of the Party Golf Tournament is was held last week at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison and featured lunch, prizes and refreshements. Individuals interested in supporting this cause can donate or reserve a team in next year’s tournament by contacting HeartOfThePartyGolf@gmail.com.
Through their efforts, the Sauer family hopes to prevent other families from experiencing similar heartbreak, ensuring that Nick’s memory continues to make a positive impact on local communities.
