Complete your Thanksgiving menu with this delicious pie!
Ingredients:
- 1 pie crust, prepared or homemade
Crumb Topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick butter
Filling
- 3 pounds apples, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- In a medium sized bowl, make the crumb topping by combining the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Cut in butter until mixture forms crumbs.
- Place a baking sheet on the lowest oven rack and preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Mix the apples, melted butter, sugars, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.
- Spoon the filling into chilled pie crust; pat the crumb mixture on top.
- Bake the pie on the hot baking sheet until lightly browned, about 30 minutes; reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees and bake an addition 60 to 80 minutes, or until apples are completely soft.
- Transfer the pie to a rack and cool completely.
- Serve with a topping whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!
