April is Autism Awareness Month and the Autism Society of Central Illinois (ASCI) will hold its annual “Take a Step for Autism” Awareness Walk & Family Carnival Day on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Southwind Park in Springfield. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with various entertainments throughout that time. Come show your support for individuals and families with autism in our surrounding communities. The carnival themed event will have two magic shows by Richard Landry & Snowball at 10:00 & 11:00 a.m., with clowns, balloon creations, cheek stamping, games and so much more. The walk itself will begin at 11:45 a.m. There will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle as well. The entire event is free to anyone. The ASCI does encourage families to assist with the fundraiser by gathering donations for their participation in the walk; however, it is not required.
The ASCI is a 100 percent 501c3 non-profit organization that operates solely on donations, fundraisers and volunteers. The monies raised help provide “Camp Aspire” (a social summer camp), recreational opportunities, grants and support groups for children with autism and their families. All of the events are sensory friendly so that the families facing the challenges of autism can enjoy the same activities as their peers. The walk serves as a main fundraiser for the ASCI to continue their current programming and to grow more services and events.
All Autism Awareness Walk and Family Carnival activities are offered free of charge and the event is open to the public. For additional information, please contact the Autism Society of Central Illinois at 217-585-1421, visit the website at www.autismcil.org, or email the ASCI at email@example.com. Donations and sponsorships can be mailed to P.O. Box 8781, Springfield, IL 62791 to help the ASCI continue to offer all the above and future services.
