Black Lives Matter rally held Sunday

  • Protesters hold signs in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Sunday’s rally brought over 300 people, many who stood near the intersection with signs and were cheered on by people driving by honking.

Sunday’s rally was planned by Seirra Helmer. Joining her were Jafre Owens, who had a similar event planned at the same time, so they joined their rallies.

Helmer also had the help of Alexia Helmer, Mia Perry, and Jennifer Valencia. Others volunteered services and the made donations. James Calmese DJ’d the event. Since the BLM JAX facebook group was formed on June 1, 2020, more than 1,000 people have joined the page. The next event is Sunday, June 14, from 5-8 p.m. on the square in downtown Jacksonville and will include speakers as well as people joining the march by vehicle.

Dr. Alonzo Ward was at Sundays rally with a sign said, “I’m proud of Jacksonville.”
