Lincoln Land Community College conferred more than 1,500 degrees and certificates at the college’s virtual commencement ceremony Friday, May 15. Also recognized at the ceremony were the recipients of the 2020 Honored Alumni and Outstanding Graduate awards.
The recipient of the 2020 Honored Alumni Award is Tyson Manker of Jacksonville. Manker first came to LLCC in 2004 following overseas service with the United States Marine Corps. Following several setbacks, he earned his associate degree in liberal arts from LLCC in 2009. He then attended University of Illinois Springfield and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political science. In 2014, he graduated from Western Michigan Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. He taught business law courses for four years at LLCC. Currently, Maker continues to practice law in central Illinois and advocate for veterans. He will be presented with a work of art created by LLCC alum and artist Bryon Hartley.
The 2020 Outstanding Graduate, who was honored earlier at the college’s virtual Student Recognition Ceremony, is Erica Lay of Jacksonville, who was chosen for her outstanding leadership of LLCC’s Jacksonville Activity Board, membership in Phi Theta Kappa academic honor society, and involvement and leadership in community service projects. Lay plans to transfer to UIS and major in business.
