Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey might have won CrossFit 2017, the games held in Madison, Wisconsin, last week. However, the hometown hero and champion, competitor Steve King, represented the United States in admiral fashion. Heading into the games for the 2nd straight year, King, a City of Jacksonville firefighter, was expected to do well. And he did. King finished as the 13th fittest man in the world in his age division. In a leaderboard filled with names and countries, it was enjoyable to see the name of a local resident repeatedly at the top of the board. When King was introduced, the arena exploded with cheers from the many people from Central Illinois that traveled to the games. “That response will be one of the greatest and proudest memories of the games. So many people took the time to come and cheer me on and made me want to push harder. I really appreciate everyone,” King said. Congratulations, Steve King!
