Mother Nature had other plans for the Friday, June 13 concert in the Jacksonville Main Street Downtown Concert Series.
The concert had to be moved due to threats of heavy rain. With the cancellation of the races for the Jacksonville Speedway, Jacksonville Main Street officials decided to use the Morgan County Fairgrounds pavilion under the grandstand.
Despite the threat of rain, concertgoers brought lawn chairs and sat down on benches to hear Mattoon’s Blue Suede Crew — a full-fledged show band complete with a 3-piece horn section and a backup vocalist. Led by Scott Wattles, a renowned Elvis Presley tribute artist, the group played several of the greatest hits from the “king of rock and roll” as well as a few from his contemporaries. Sweet treats, Jacksonville’s Bicentennial Beer, and a midway of food trucks kept everyone’s taste buds entertained while the tunes kept everyone’s toes tapping.
