With local produce season soon approaching, Passavant Area Hospital is proud to announce their partnership with the Jacksonville Farmers’ Market as the main sponsor for the 2016 season.
“Good nutrition is important for a healthy lifestyle. Paired with physical activity, a nutritious diet helps maintain a healthy weight, lowers the risk of chronic diseases, and promotes overall health. We’re happy to partner with the vendors as they provide healthy fruits and vegetables. Their selection is always amazing,” said Doug Rahn, DBA, President and CEO, Passavant Area Hospital.
The partnership with the Farmers’ Market also reinforces Passavant’s message of 5-2-1-0. The message 5-2-1-0 is a nationally-recognized childhood obesity program encouraging children to increase their physical activity and encourage healthy eating. Recent data shows that nearly 30 percent of Morgan County adults and 42 percent of sixth grade students are obese. The 5-2-1-0 message is 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, 2 hours or less of screen time per day, 1 hour of physical activity each day, and 0 sugar sweetened beverages.
The Jacksonville Farmers’ Market opens for the first time on Saturday, May 7, at 7 a.m. The regular schedule is Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 7 a.m. to noon. The Market is located in the south portion of the Lincoln Square Shopping Center on Morton Avenue.
