National Night Out provides citizens, law enforcement the opportunity to build community

National Night Out took place from 5:30-8 p.m. in Jacksonville’s Community Park on Tuesday, August 6.
According to natw.org, “National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.” The free event was presented locally by Crimestoppers of Morgan, Scott and Cass Counties and also Jacksonville Citizens Police Academy Alumni.
The evening offered much to the community including free Ferris wheel rides, bounce houses, costumed characters and the presence of many community organizations. Information and prizes/swag were provided by many.
Additionally, emergency personnel were present for attendees to meet. This included police officers, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers and others. A demonstration was also held by Jacksonville Police Department K-9 Cyrus and handlers.
Bicycles, donated by Walmart, as well as locks and helmets, donated by the Jacksonville Police Department, were won in a drawing as well.
The night presented as a huge success.
