Jacksonville High School will be having their annual Madrigal Dinner on Sat. Feb. 4th starting at 5:00 p.m. and Sun. Feb 5th starting at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults $9 for children ages 3-11. Call Amy Blanford at 217-855-0783 for reservations or go to jsdjhs117.org for a ticket flyer.
This year’s theme is humorous and titled “Fools in Love”. The leading jester or fool played by Nicholas Hester takes extreme measures to fall in love with another jester played by Ellie Smith. The jester seeks advice from wandering minstrels (Caleb Holaway, Grace Smith and Alex Wilkinsin) who go to great lengths to find ways to help them fall in love. The Royal Interpreter, Julian Evans, adds insight and humor through the night. A four course dinner will be served of Wassail, salad, stuffed chicken and potatoes and dessert. Highlighted will also be the singing of 15 madrigal singers at the head table who will wear Renaissance attire. The singers include Camille Blanford, Hailey Craigmiles, Mackenzie Prewitt, Gracie Jackson, Brooklyn Carter, Chloe Hart, Camri Anderson, Emma Bible (Queen), Andrew Smith, Andrew Blue, Joseph Acree, Austin Kirkpatrick, Cameron Hume (King), Zach Camberlain, and Miquel Torres. Recorder music is provided by Alexis Shanks, Lauren Stidham, and Kenleigh Megginson and Royal Heralder is Aaron Hopper. Students of the Jacksonville High School Concert Choir and Women’s and Men’s Ensemble will also be participating, singing and helping with serving the guest.
Guests are encouraged to write a fictitious name on their ticket for example Duke and Duchess of Massey Lane or Lord and Lady Coffee of the Donut Shoppe. Upon entering the Great Castle you will be announced. The dinner is interactive and guests are encouraged to write love notes which can be delivered to anyone in the room by the servers. Comedy, drama, music, fellowship and good food are enjoyed by all who attend.
