I am a stay at home Mom, so my job is to do my best to make sure things run
smoothly, that the house is tidy and in working order.
My mom once told me that your house is only as clean as your back steps.
I scoffed at the time, but soon realized how true it was! We live in the Sand Hills,
and if I don’t keep that back porch tidy, you better believe my precious family brings
in a sand box load of sand every day.
It feels awful, it looks awful, heck…it even SOUNDS awful when you move stuff
around and here that scraping noise!!!!
I now sweep my back porch two if not three times a day, and my home is cleaner for
it.
Yesterday, when I was sweeping, the Lord spoke to me……
Your house is only as clean as your back step.
Woah.
He wasn’t talking about the literal house. He was talking about me, my temple.
Psalm 32:3-5
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in
the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up
my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD”—and you
forgave the guilt of my sin.”
So, what is on your back step? What is preventing your home from staying totally
clean?
Sand is tiny, it seems harmless, but left unchecked, it can fill your home, cause you
pain, and your house feel out-of-order in a hurry!
This is the same in our lives…..
Whether it be a Candy Crush addiction that keeps you from devotion time, a secret
that haunts you in those quiet moments, anger towards someone who wronged you,
deleted text messages you don’t want your spouse to see, or shame from the
past……..
Whatever it is, hiding there on your back step, is keeping your HOME, your temple,
from ever feeling totally clean. It’s time to clean house!
Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.“
Satan dwells in the hidden, secret places. By naming those secrets, by sweeping
them out, we find freedom. And where freedom is, light is, and where light is….satan
has no place.
Don’t give him entry to your home, your temple, one teeny-tiny grain of sand at a
time.
What’s on your back step? Will you let your Heavenly Father sweep it clean before
it comes tracking into your hearts home? Hebrews 10:22
”Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of
faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty
conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”
