“To Be A Nurse” High School Summer Camp Applications Open

Applications now available for Time “To Be A Nurse” High School Summer Camp

Passavant Area Hospital, a Memorial Health System affiliate, and MacMurray College are again offering their Time To Be A Nurse High School Summer Camp. Applications for the camp, July 11 to 14, are now available from the Passavant Nursing Administration Department. To request an application, call (217) 479-5848.

The Nursing Camp is offered at no cost and gives local and area teens an idea to see if nursing is a career they’d like to pursue.

“This is an excellent opportunity to have hands-on patient experiences with a registered nurse at your side. The students will encounter real patients and real situations in several hospital settings,” says Karen Daum, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer.

Campers will take part in patient care activities in the acute care setting and also spend time at the College of Nursing at MacMurray simulation laboratory.

Last summer’s campers were excited to share their experiences. “I think the camp should last longer. It was too much fun to last only a few days,” while another commented, “I liked getting the hands-on experience. It was a great opportunity and I loved it.”

The Nursing Camp opportunity is limited to twelve students, ages 14 to 18. The application has several parts, including a short essay, a teacher/counselor reference, and a parental consent. Application deadline is May 16, 2016.
