Morgan County’s Derek Suttles earns state association Deputy of the Year
Morgan County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Derek Suttles has been awarded the 2025 Deputy of the Year by the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association (ISA). Suttles is recognized and honored for his long-term career dedication and work in criminal interdiction.
The ISA selection process calls for nominations from sheriffs across the state to honor personnel for exceptional achievements, including extraordinary valor and life-saving actions, criminal investigations and traffic safety, and contributions to crime prevention and community services.
“What an honor to be named this, with all the other incredible deputies out there working tirelessly, day in and day out, to make our communities a better place,” shared Suttles about receipt of the award.

The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association wrapped up the 2026 Sheriffs Winter Training Conference, awards banquet and installation of officers February 7-10 in Springfield. The awards banquet was held February 10.
