Jacksonville Dementia Support Group announces special guest speaker for March 27 meeting:
Jennifer Lakin from Gentiva Hospice will be the guest speaker at the Jacksonville Dementia Support Group meeting on Thursday, March 27. Lakin will explain how, when and the different times hospice can best be used to benefit your family member.
We invite those of you who are caring for loved ones with any form of dementia to join us at Jacksonville Dementia Support Group meetings held the fourth Thursday of each month at City Church. The Alzheimer’s Association sponsors this group and they have a trained facilitator that leads the discussions. The meetings are for caregivers who are caring for spouses, family or friends. Anyone may come to the meetings who wants to know more about dealing with those that have dementia.
The meetings are a great place to build a support system, exchange practical information on changes and possible solutions, talk through issues and ways of coping, learn about community resources and share needs, feelings and concerns.
Meetings are held at 2 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month at City Church, 129 E. Vandalia Rd. in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Lions Club donates to Leaps of Love:
The Jacksonville Lions Club wrapped up February with a generous donation to a state charity in an effort to combat childhood cancer.
During the month of February, the Lions pushed their ongoing mint sales in order to donate portions of the proceeds to Leaps of Love. The Highland, Illinois based charity provides support and resources to families who are waging a battle against childhood cancer.
The Jacksonville Lions created several baskets for local families who are dealing with a childhood cancer diagnosis and presented Leaps of Love Founder and Director Tracie Riechmann with a check for $500 in early March. Prior to that, the Lions accepted a check from funds collected by students from Our Saviour School. Students were allowed to make a donation for a non-uniform day at the school in order to support the fundraiser.
The mint boxes will continue to stay at local businesses as the Lions will continue to collect proceeds to focus on the Lions other areas of focus to benefit local residents.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources stocking trout at Morgan Lake in Nichols Park:
The Parks and Lakes Department would like to announce that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will be stocking trout at Morgan Lake in Nichols Park. The spring trout season will open up on Saturday, March 22. The trout will be released in the middle section of Morgan Lake at Nichols Park, east of the road bridge.
There will be a period of only catch and release fishing from March 22 to April 5. It is only after the season opens up on April 5 that persons may keep their trout. The daily catch limit for each angler is five trout. All anglers must have a valid fishing license and an Inland Trout Stamp that can be purchased where licenses are sold.
