It’s time for a spooktacular weekend of music. There appears to be some hauntingly good tunes all over the area this week. After the young ones get their candy, Mom and Dad or the older siblings have plenty of places to go to enjoy some entertainment.
One of the cool places to go to if you like both music and film, organist Jacob Hofeling will be offering the soundtrack to an abridged version of the 1922 silent film, “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror,” accompanied by organ improvisation on Friday, October 31 starting at 7:30 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to come in costume for this spectacular chance to step back in time to the silent film era to the very first vampire movie. Cost is $20 for adults. Children are also invited to attend for free. The event is part of Illinois College’s annual Fine Arts Series.
Jacksonville’s legendary rock band Tapestry will rock a Halloween show on October 31 at Duke & Joannie’s over in Chandlerville from 8-11 p.m. For our Cass County friends, Jason Michael Launer will hold down the stage for a Halloween party at AJ’s Bar & Grill in Chandlerville starting at 9 p.m. West Bend Bar & Grill in Murrayville will have a trick-or-treat for the kids from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, October 31. Everyone can stay for steak night and then Exit 52 will take the stage for an acoustic set from 9 p.m. to midnight.
The calendar turns to November but the fun doesn’t end on Saturday. Stan Robinson, Lynn Ruby and Roy Mathy jam out at Lone Starr’s Bar in Glasgow on November 1 from 8-11 p.m.
The Jacksonville AmVets Post 100 gets in on the action with Central Illinois rock cover band The Remedy on Saturday as well. The Remedy has been around for almost 25 years entertaining people. They will play from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Acoustic duo Not Petty will jam to an old-fashioned costume party at Patriot’s Pub in Waverly from 8-11 p.m. The costume party starts at 6 p.m.
Jason Michael Launer continues his barnstorming ways with a set at West Bend Bar & Grill on Saturday from 8:30-11:30 p.m. If you got tickets to the Central Illinois Policeman’s Ball in Jacksonville, you’ll get to dance to the Jeff Newman and Trio DeGroove starting after 6 p.m.
The day of (no) rest is Sunday for our local entertainers. Geezer entertains for Sunday Funday from 3-6 p.m. at American Legion Post 279.
Peyton Tucker, a singer-songwriter and acoustic artist from my hometown of White Hall has been making a name for himself all over Greene County for his fun, high energy shows. Better known by his stage persona Ptuck, he comes to visit north to the West Bend Bar & Grill in Murrayville for a Sunday Funday set on November 2 from 3-7 p.m.
Orland Park acoustic artist Michael Satarino comes south for a visit to Vixen Hill Winery over in Palmyra on November 2 starting at 2 p.m. Then, local friends Exit 52 head up I-72 a couple of exit numbers to the Trail’s End Saloon in Curran for an acoustic show from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday.
I wanted to put in a little personal plug, too. My music entity Elm City Radio is prepping for an 80s Adult Prom Night on November 8 at Pizza Records. I’ll be spinning all your favorite 45s from the 1980-1989 all night long. Come and enjoy my punch recipe. Get a photo in the photo booth with your classic 80s fashions. Dance the night away. All ages are welcome. We had a great time last time we did this in the middle of an ice storm! Check in with Pizza Records for more details.
