The Art Association of Jacksonville held annual ‘Art in the Yard’ event

On Saturday, June 6, The Art Association of Jacksonville welcomed the children and families to join them in celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a morning full of creativity, color and patriotic fun during Art in the Yard, which was held outdoors on the lawn of The David Strawn Art Gallery.
For $5 per child, kids could create with hands-on art activities inspired by famous American landmarks and legendary artists. Stations were set up all over the yard on the beautiful morning, and participants enjoyed painting, crafting, and creative exploration. Projects included Jackson Pollock “fireworks,” flag mobiles inspired by Alexander Calder, Statue of Liberty art inspired by pop artist Roy Lichtenstein and much more.
Art in the Yard chairperson Audra Fanning Nelson shared that it was a terrific turnout: 74 kids and families, plus 25 volunteers — and even recent crowned Jacksonville royalty — attended the event.
Nelson said, “We wanted this year’s Art in the Yard to serve as a meaningful celebration of America’s 250th birthday by combining patriotic themes with hands-on art projects inspired by iconic landmarks and renowned American artists. It was especially rewarding to see the front lawn filled with families creating, learning, and enjoying a morning filled with art.”
Nelson was assisted by Jo Ann Nelson, Linda Dunseth and Katie Headen in planning the fun fundraiser. Audra Fanning Nelson shared her appreciation for the aforementioned as well as all the volunteers who helped with the event.
This year’s Art in the Yard was a fun-filled morning of celebrating art, creativity and American pride.
