Heartland Bank Independence Day 5K Run, Walk & Fun Run spans age groups, abilities

The Heartland Bank Independence Day 5K Run, Walk & Fun Run took place on July 4 at Nichols Park. In line with the Fourth of July, the 5K theme was patriotic. Plenty of runners (and walkers, etc.) came out for the day of exercise, community and fun.
Top three overall and men’s category winners were:
First place: Joey Mcginn, of Decatur, with a time of 16:52.
Second place: Calvin Armbrust, of Petersburg, with a time of 17:47.
Third place: Christian Soltermann, of Jacksonville, with a time of 18:26.
Top three in the women’s category were:
First place: Emma Wyman, of Jacksonville, with a time of 21:45.
Second place: Amber Kleckler, of Rochester, with at time of 21:59.
Third place: Megan Clark, of Greenfield, with a time of 22:49.
The youngest finisher of the event was six-year-old Oliver Franz, 6, of Jacksonville.
The oldest finisher was Steve Austin, 79, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
